Łukasz Chrzęszczyk – pianist, soloist and chamber musician, lecturer at the Department of Piano Chamber Music, Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
He began his musical training at the age of six in his hometown of Kielce, first with Elżbieta Sarama and then with Andrzej Domin. In 2014 he graduated from the FCUM, having studied piano with Prof Piotr Paleczny and chamber music with Prof Maja Nosowska. In February 2018 he received his PhD; his doctoral dissertation, devoted to Krzysztof Penderecki’s sonatas for violin and piano, received excellent reviews, with the reviewers praising the artist as one of the most promising Polish musicians of the young generation.
Łukasz Chrzęszczyk is a prizewinner at numerous piano and chamber music competitions. His collaboration with the violinist Marta Kowalczyk brought him the 1st Prize, Prize of the President of the Republic of Poland and Special Prize of the Polish Radio at the 1st Competition of Duos with Piano in Warsaw (2012), as well as the Grand Prix, 1st Prize in the violin-piano duet category and all special prizes at the 1st International Ludwig van Beethoven Chamber Music Competition in Lusławice (2015). He also won prizes at the International Kiejstut Bacewicz Chamber Music Competition in Łódź (2013), International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition in Gdańsk (2012) and Fryderyk Chopin National Competition (2011).
As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed all over Europe, participating in events such as the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój, Witold Lutosławski Chain Festival at the Polish Radio’s Witold Lutosławski Studio, Krzysztof Penderecki Festival in Warsaw, Monteleon Festival in Leon (Spain) and Musica in Collina in Lapedona (Italy). He has collaborated with some of the finest Polish musicians, including Jakub Jakowicz, Jakub Haufa, Janusz Wawrowski, Bartosz Koziak and Magdalena Bojanowicz. In 2014 he made his debut with the Warsaw Philharmonic, playing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2; he has also collaborated with the Witold Lutosławski Polish Youth Orchestra, the Swiss Il mosaico Youth Orchestra as well as the Kielce Philharmonic and Rzeszów Philharmonic Orchestras. He has appeared under the baton of conductors like Michał Klauza, Wojciech Rodek, Monika Wolińska, Adrian Varela and Hermann Ostendarp. He has recorded for the Polish and Spanish Radios; in 2014 as a member of the Aperto Trio he recorded a CD with piano trios by Andrzej Panufnik and Maurice Ravel. In April 2018 he took part in the Holland Music Sessions’ New Masters on Tour, performing e.g. at the Bratislava Philharmonic Hall and Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam.
As a teacher, he has conducted chamber music workshops at the Hochschule fur Musik Detmold and Eesti Muusika-ja Teatriakademia in Tallinn; in addition, he collaborates with the Polish Children’s Fund as a tutor at the Fund’s annual Chamber Music Workshops held for the most promising music school pupils at the Penderecki Centre in Lusławice.
Łukasz Chrzęszczyk has received scholarships from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Rector of the FCUM, Société Générale and Theodor Leschetizky Association. In 2013 he received the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Young Poland grant, awarded by the National Centre for Culture.
